Our "Best of"

Around Wynfrid House on foot.

Feel free to look around our neighborhood a bit. We'll introduce you to our favorite spots around Wynfrid House – hand-picked, nearby, and full of London vibes.

So you can already look forward to small discoveries and authentic local moments.

Welcome to Whitechapel!

Discover the Heart of the East End

Welcome to vibrant Whitechapel, the lively district surrounding Wynfrid House!

Here, in London's historic East End, multicultural diversity meets exciting history and modern vibes. The famous Brick Lane entices with street art, vintage shops, and the city's best curry houses.

This is where the real London pulsates! Whether you want to explore the footsteps of Jack the Ripper, relax in trendy cafes, or experience the nightlife near Tower Hill –

Whitechapel offers it all. And right in the middle is Wynfrid House.

TESCO - Your Reliable Local Store

Tesco is Britain's most famous supermarket and your central local store. Just a few steps from Wynfrid House, you'll find everything: from apples to toothbrushes.

Especially popular: The Meal Deal – a sandwich, crisps (that's chips, not fries), and a drink for little money. Ideal for excursions or a quick snack.

If you're sure your bank won't charge extra for card payments, you can pay at the self-checkout: scan items, place them on the weighing area (it weighs them), next item, pay at the end – done.

Prefer to pay with cash? Then head to the traditional staffed checkout.

The Clubcard: You'll often find two prices on the shelves: Regular & Clubcard prices. The latter are often cheaper – feel free to ask at reception if we can help.

Pizza Union or "Margarita for six pounds"

At Pizza Union, you get a great pizza for a very reasonable price. Don't expect wagon wheels, but the value for money is truly sensible and it's one of our recommendations in the neighborhood – plus, it's ready quickly.

The pizza always comes in a box, but you can also eat there in a nice atmosphere – and they have delicious olive oil and chili. Two more tips:

Your card, no cash! If worst comes to worst, you can ask another guest to pay for you and take your cash – that's also a way to meet people!

Best enjoyed on-site: Of course, you can also bring your pizza back to the house and eat it in the common room. But especially in the colder months, even the few minutes it takes to get here can turn it into an unexpectedly soggy experience.

We love Pizza Union, but not cold – even the microwave can't do much to save it then.

Altab Ali Park

When you see our tower, you're almost home – just a few more steps through our "welcome park." Altab Ali Park – a green spot right outside our door where you can catch your breath.

The park isn't huge, really just a city block that allows you to take a diagonal path to the house, but it's perfect for a short break if you're strolling through the neighborhood – or want to eat your Meal Deal sandwich.

There's also a nice water fountain here, ideal for refreshing yourself before you move on.

Come by, sit on a bench, or watch people pass by. There aren't any major attractions, but that's precisely its charm – simply a piece of tranquility in the urban jungle – and you'll find some hidden culture here and there too.

Goodman's Field Pub

Your cozy meeting spot – just a few steps from Wynfrid House and ideal for the first or last pint of the day.

The pub belongs to the well-known Wetherspoon chain and offers classic pub food at truly fair prices. Especially popular: the Fish & Chips, served with mushy peas and lemon – a must-try when visiting London.

But the menu also has a lot to offer: juicy steaks, burgers, vegetarian curries, and surprisingly good desserts. The quality is solid, and the value for money is almost unbeatable for London.

It gets really exciting on themed evenings – such as Steak Night or Curry Night: good food, including a drink, for little money.

Daily from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, there are generous discounts during Happy Hour on many food and drinks – perfect for unwinding after a day in the city.

Cozy indoors, with a few tables outside – and always with good company.

The Liberty Bounds

If you like the Wetherspoon style, you'll feel at home here too – but with a real wow-factor view: Through the large windows, you look directly onto Tower Bridge and the historic heart of the City.

The pub itself is a bit grander than Goodman's Field, with high ceilings, impressive interiors, and a quiet, almost venerable atmosphere.

Perfect for a quick stop after a walk along the Thames – or to stay longer.

Prices remain moderately Wetherspoon-typical, and the crowd is mixed – from business people to backpackers, everyone's there.

A nice spot for a quiet pint, a late breakfast, or a visit if you're heading towards the Tower anyway.

Brick Lane (and Food Hall)

If you only explore one street, make it this one: Brick Lane is the creative, chaotic, delicious heart of East London.

During the day, you can browse vintage shops, discover street art (Banksy included!), or linger in one of the many small cafes. In the evenings, it gets loud, lively, and sometimes a bit wild.

On Sundays, the street truly bursts at the seams:
The Brick Lane Market spreads across several halls and courtyards – with clothes, bric-a-brac, records, handmade goods, and street food from all over the world.

And right in the middle is the Seven Dials Food Hall – a large, covered market hall with a dozen street food stalls: burritos, dumplings, Korean fried chicken, vegan bowls, Caribbean curries... and everything just smells too good.

Our tip: It's better to eat small bites here than large meals. You want to sample, not burst.

And if you love curry, it'll be hard to ever leave Brick Lane. Here you'll find dozens of Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants – often affordable, sometimes spectacular, always with neon and their own unique charm.

Brick Lane isn't pretty. But it's alive. And you can feel it.

Sky Garden

One of London's most spectacular viewpoints – and completely free. The building below it is called 20 Fenchurch Street, but everyone just calls it the "Walkie-Talkie" – because of its bulbous shape.

The Sky Garden is perched on the 35th floor above the City and is half winter garden, half tropical house: with real plants, glass facades, and unobstructed views of Tower Bridge, The Shard, and the entire city.

Important: You need a free online ticket, which you should ideally book a few days in advance.

Inside, there's a cafe and a bar; prices are okay – the view is priceless.

Tip: In the mornings or during the week, there are sometimes free slots at the entrance.

Whether as a start to the day or a sunset finale – the Sky Garden is always worth it. And for photos, definitely.

The Garden at 120

Also a real insider tip: The Garden at 120 is located on the roof of 120 Fenchurch Street and is one of London's largest freely accessible rooftop terraces – completely free and no ticket required.

Instead of a tropical house, you'll find an expansive open-air garden here with water features, trees, and cozy seating – right in the City, but surprisingly relaxed.

From here, you can see the skyscrapers around Leadenhall Market, The Gherkin, and on a clear day, all the way to Tower Bridge.

Just go there, pass through security, and take the elevator up – it couldn't be more spontaneous.

Tip: Come on a sunny day or in the evening when the lights come on. It's quieter than the Sky Garden, but just as impressive.

Tower of London

Few places tell as many stories as the Tower of London. Nearly 1,000 years old, it has been a royal palace, prison, treasury, and the site of many famous executions.

Today, you can explore the ancient walls, see real armor, chat with the Yeoman Warders (the "Beefeaters") – and, of course, marvel at the Crown Jewels.

Admission isn't cheap, but you get a lot to see. And if you're interested in history, almost every corner is worth it.

If you don't want tickets, you can also just walk around the outside – the complex is impressive enough. And you'll take the best photos from the outside anyway, with Tower Bridge in the background.

The Tower is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the city's most popular attractions.
And in case you're wondering: Yes, the ravens there are real – and according to legend, the Tower must never be without them.

Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge is one of London's most famous landmarks – perhaps even the world's, and incidentally, a rather elaborate hallway to Wynfrid House...

It's not only beautiful but also technically impressive: Since 1894, its two bascules have lifted to allow larger ships to pass through.

Inside, there's an exhibition on the bridge's history and engineering. Especially popular: The glass floor in the upper walkway – from there, you can look directly down at the traffic below.

Even without a ticket, a visit is worthwhile: The walk across the bridge offers great views – especially at sunset. And its proximity to the Tower of London makes it an ideal stopover.

Tower Bridge is not just a photo spot. It is London in motion – and has been for over 130 years.

When does the drawbridge open? You can always check the current Bridge Lift Times – a tip for pros!

St. Katharine Docks

Just a few steps from Tower Bridge lies this small harbor, hidden among brick buildings, restaurants, and yachts.

Here, London is suddenly quiet: no buses, no tourist crowds – just water, boats, and seagulls. Perfect for a break after the hustle and bustle.

You can stroll along the quay, look at the boats, or sit by the water with a drink. The restaurants range from casual to upscale – often with views of the dock.

Previously, warehouses and merchant ships were located here; today, St. Katharine Docks is one of the city's most charming places. And hardly anyone knows about it.

TK Maxx at Monument

Sure, TK Maxx is also available in Germany – but if you enjoy browsing, a detour is still worthwhile.

The branch at Monument is within walking distance of Wynfrid House – and ideal if you still need small gifts, clothes, or a suitcase.

At TK Maxx, you'll find the usual wild mix of designer brands, sportswear, cosmetics, handbags, electronics, and accessories – often heavily discounted, sometimes surprisingly good.

You might know the principle: What's here today is gone tomorrow. If you enjoy a treasure hunt, you might find something here.

By the way: Like most shops here, TK Maxx is also open on Sundays.

Tayyabs – The Pakistani everyone talks about.

If you like it spicy, lively, and really good, Tayyabs is the place for you. Since 1972, this family-run establishment has been serving authentic Pakistani cuisine – and has long been a cult favorite.

Especially in the evenings, it's busy here, so reservations are recommended (also available online). House specialty: Grilled lamb specialties, served with crispy naan, spicy sauces, fresh vegetables – and a mango lassi that saves everything.

No alcohol on the menu, but you're welcome to bring your own wine or beer. Glasses are provided on-site.

Prices are fair, portions are generous, service is fast – but friendly-chaotic.

From us, you'll be there in five minutes – and afterwards, full, happy, and well-seasoned.

Rasoi Ghar – Indian Cuisine with Style

Just a short walk from Wynfrid House, Rasoi Ghar awaits you – a true highlight for lovers of Indian cuisine.

Chef Jasbinder Singh, who began his career in prestigious establishments such as The Oberoi and Taj Group, brings his experience from top-class gastronomy here. With stints such as the Cinnamon Club in London, he has made a name for himself and now presents a modern interpretation of regional Indian dishes at Rasoi Ghar.

The ambiance is elegant and inviting, and the menu offers a refined selection of classic curries, Tandoori specialties, and Biryani – prepared with contemporary techniques and great attention to detail.

Wynfrid Tip: As a guest of Wynfrid House, you will receive 10% off your bill when you present your room key. Just mention it when ordering!
